2024 Presidential Preference Primary

All registered voters in Lewis County will receive a ballot by mail for the March 12, 2024 Presidential Preference Primary. Ballots will be mailed to voters on February 21, 2024. If you have not received your ballot within 10 days of the mailing date, please contact the Auditor's Office. Ballots must be postmarked by March 12th or returned to one of our ballot drop boxes by 8 p.m. on election night. A stamp is not necessary as all ballot return envelopes include prepaid postage. All of Lewis County's 14 ballot drop boxes will be open for the election.

The Presidential Preference Primary happens every four years and is a chance to participate in the nomination process for the office of U.S. President. Voters help the major political parties choose presidential nominees. Washington's Presidential Primary was first created in 1989 through a citizens' Initiative to the Legislature to include more voters in the process.

This is the only election in which state law requires Washington's voters to mark and sign party declarations written by the major political parties. Voters who choose to participate in the nomination process will mark and sign party declarations on their ballot return envelopes. Voters who choose to vote for a Democratic candidate must mark the Democratic Party box and sign the oath on the return envelope. Voters who choose to vote for a Republican candidate must mark the Republican Party box and sign the oath on the return envelope. Click here for more information about the Presidential Preference Primary.

According to RCW 29A.56.031, changes to the lists of candidates can not be made after the parties submit them to the Secretary of State. If a candidate whose name was submitted drops out of the race or suspends their campaign, their name will remain on the Presidential Primary ballot.
